The Chevy SUV lineup is stacked when it comes to options, and if you’re looking for a used model, there’s something for everyone. With Chevy offering both two- and three-row options, there are a few things that you need to know about before going to the lot to find a used SUV, and that’s where we want to help. We’ll be breaking down the lineup so you know what to expect.
Key Takeaways:
- If you’re looking for which used Chevy SUVs have 3rd row seating, you’ll want either a Suburban, Tahoe, or Traverse.
- The Suburban and Tahoe are very similar in recent years, with the Tahoe being the stronger SUV thanks to its build.
- The Blazer and the Equinox both offer EV variants, making it a great option for those who want a vehicle that will save on gasoline.
Blazer
Being that this is a new model, you can look for some great new features. Coming with L, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier trims. No matter which trim you find, you can expect an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, and push-button start. No matter the trim, you’ll find that the model only comes as a two-row configuration.
Other Features included in the Chevy Blazer Include:
- Heated and ventilated front bucket seats with driver's memory
- Bose premium audio system
- GPS navigation
- A power sunroof
- A power tailgate
When it comes to powertrains, there are a few options to pick from. For the two traditional gas-powered options, there’s the 2.5L I4 and the 3.6L V6. Of the two, the 2.5L I4 is the most efficient, getting you 25 MPG combined, compared to the 3.6L’s 22 MPG combined.
If you want even better mileage, then you can look for the Blazer EV. This comes with most of the same features, but does it in a greener package. This model is able to get 104 combined MPG, getting up to 312 miles on one charge. While this is great, it may be harder to find, as the first year model it came out was in 2024.
Equinox
The Equinox is another smaller SUV, having only two rows. Thanks to it being smaller, it comes with better fuel efficiency and is easier to drive in a busy city. Having entered a new generation for the 2025 models, they will be harder to find, so we’ll focus on models that you will more than likely find.
Coming with a handful of trims, the standard features are mostly the same, with the biggest difference being the infotainment screen. If you’re looking for the largest screen, that’ll be the 8-inch screen that can be found on the LT, RS, and Premier trims. The smaller 7-inch screen can be found on the L, LS, LT, and RS trims.
Some new safety features were added for this generation, too. This took the form of a surround-view camera, forward collision warning, low-speed automatic braking, and a standard rear seat alert system.
Throughout this generation, this model has seen a few powertrains. The one that stayed around the longest is the 1.5L I4, able to get 28 MPG combined. The other powertrains that you can find from this generation are a 2.0L I4 that can get 25 MPG combined, while a 1.6L I4 diesel option was available, giving you up to 32 MPG combined.
If you want something more efficient, you can look for the Equinox EV that came out late in the generation. This will be able to get you 108 MPG combined, having a total range of 319 miles on one charge.
Hitting the road as a 2021 model, this one comes with a ton of options. The trims you can look for are L, LS, LT, ACTIV, and RS. While the first three are what you’d expect, with each one having better features than the last, the Activ and RS trims share the same interior features, but see different exterior stylings. If you want something more rugged, then the ACTIV is for you, but if you want a sleek daily driver, then the RS is what you want.
This model comes with two engines that are available, both of which are great options. With both engines being so efficient, they only differ by 13 miles of total range. The best engine you can look for is the 1.3L I3, which gets 31 MPG combined.
Some features that you can find from this model are an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which replaces the two smaller 7- and 8-inch units from earlier in the generation. Other than that, the model is pretty economical, but sometimes that's exactly what you need.
Being one of the larger models, this one offers three rows, allowing for up to eight passenger seating. This model comes in L, LS, LT, Premier, and High Country trims for the second generation that started in 2018, while there is a newer generation, which started in 2024, making it a bit harder to find.
The second-generation model comes with two engines to pick from. The engines are the 3.6L V6 that makes 310 horsepower, and the 2.0L turbocharged I4 making 257 horsepower. The more efficient of the two is the 2.0L I4, as it was able to get 22 MPG combined. Unfortunately for this engine, it was only available for the RS trim and was discontinued in 2020. This leaves the 3.6L V6 that has a combined MPG of 21.
Models before 2021 can sometimes be found with a rear seat entertainment system, making it the best option for soccer moms who want to keep their kids entertained. Models after 2022 can now be found with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and even an 8-inch infotainment screen.
Trax
In recent years, the Trax comes with a 1.2L I3 engine. This engine has an EPA-rated 30 MPG combined. With this engine being found on the most recent generation that had models starting in 2023, the generation that came before was kind of bland, all things considered.
Having seen a refresh in 2017, the model didn’t see much added, with the main changes being to the exterior. Some features that you can find on these models are a 7-inch screen with phone connectivity, making it easy to connect to your preferred navigation app. It also comes with built-in wi-fi, but you’ll need a subscription for that.
Suburban
Back to the three-row options, the Suburban is one of the best there is, and the best there has been. Having been on the roads for nearly 100 years, there’s a reason this model has been around for so long. In recent years, this model has entered a new generation. This generation can be found in the LS, LT, Premier, Z71, RST, and High Country trims.
If you’re someone who likes going off-road, then the Z71 is a great option, this is because it comes with standard 4WD. If you’re not too worried about that, then the rest of the lineup is a good option. No matter which trim you get, a 10.25-inch touch screen is standard on all trims. This generation also comes with a nine-camera display that makes towing even easier, making it so you can be your spotter with confidence.
On higher-end trim levels, you can find an adaptive air ride suspension, which helps make your ride even more comfortable. If you want a model that is good for road trips, especially with younger kids, you can look for models that are equipped with a pair of 12.6-inch screens for the rear seats.
The most efficient engine from this generation is the 3.0L V6. This diesel engine can get you 23 MPG combined, which is decent for what it is powering.
Tahoe
On to the last of the lineup, the Tahoe is just as iconic as the Suburban. While not having been around for nearly as long, this one has been a fan favorite since it was around. While the Tahoe is very similar to the Suburban when it comes to features and trims, thanks to the SUV using the same build as a Silverado, it can tow more.
The Tahoe can tow up to 8,500 pounds, making it more effective than some trucks that are on the market. This makes it a great option for dads who want something that can be used as a handyman vehicle.
Which used Chevy SUV is the best for me?
