The Nissan Sentra is one of the best vehicles on the market as it is reliable, comfortable, and affordable. We’ll be taking a look at some of the more recent iterations of the model so you know which ones to look out for to suit your needs.
Key takeaways
- If you’re someone who likes a manual transmission, then you’ll need an S trim from the seventh generation, this is because it is the only model to come with it in the past decade.
- If you’re looking for the best used Nissan Sentra years, then we think that it starts with the 2022 year models. This is thanks to the safety ratings that it comes with, making it a solid option for those who value safe vehicles.
- The two generations that were covered share similar EPA ratings, despite the engines being different sizes, making it so that you don’t have to choose solely on fuel economy.
Eighth Generation (2019-Present)
Since this is the most recent generation for the Sentra, this one will come with the best tech that is available for it. For us here in the United States, this model came with 3 trims, there’s the S, SV, and the SR. All of these models came powered by a 2.0L I4 that is paired to a CVT. This engine is very efficient, with the SR seeing “lower” mileage at 32 MPG combined, as per the EPA.
Some of the features from this generation include either 7, or 8-inch infotainment screens for the model, depending on the trim. This also goes for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as only the SV, and SR models have that option.
For the interior, there’s cloth seats that come standard, but if you find yourself looking at a model that is equipped with leather seats, then you’ll be treated to heated features. These seats are also the Zero Gravity seats, making it a comfortable ride.
When the 2022 models hit the roads, they came with the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick. This was awarded thanks to it scoring “good” on most of the key areas that are tested. This makes it one of the safest vehicles from that time, and if you’re looking for a safe daily driver, then you won’t find one much better than this.
Seventh Generation (2012-2018)
Not the newest model, but it does still come with some modern features. This generation features a smaller engine than the most recent generation, being a 1.8L I4. This engine does come with some good mileage as well, getting 32 MPG combined, as tested by the EPA. The unique thing from this generation is that they can be found with manual transmissions.
This generation also came in a ton of trims to pick from, these are the S, FE S, SV, FE+ SV, SR, and SL trims. Of these trims, the S is the only one that does come with the optional manual that we’ve mentioned earlier. The SR trim is the sportier model, this equips it with a rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels and a silver trim.
If you do end up finding a higher end trim, then there are a few features to look for. The features are satellite navigation, intelligent key with start button, and dual-zone climate control. These aim at taking the vehicle to a whole new level.
